  • 2 ¼ teaspoon Active dry yeast One standard packet
  • 4 cups All purpose flour Plus extra for dusting

  • ½ cup Unsalted butter Melted for brushing
  • ¾ cup Granulated sugar For the sweet coating
  • 2 tablespoon Ground cinnamon For the sweet coating
  • 1 sprig Fresh thyme For garnish

Method
 

  1. Whisk the warm water and yeast in a bowl until perfectly foamy.
  2. Add the flour and salt gradually to form a smooth dough, then let it rise for one hour.
  3. Divide the risen dough, roll into ropes, and shape them into classic pretzel twists.
  4. Boil the shaped twists in a baking soda water bath for thirty seconds each.
  5. Bake the boiled dough at 400 degrees Fahrenheit until deep golden brown.
  6. Brush the warm baked twists heavily with melted butter.
  7. Toss the buttered twists in the cinnamon sugar mixture until evenly coated.
  8. Serve immediately with a sweet dipping sauce and a garnish of fresh thyme.

Notes

Do not skip the baking soda bath, as it provides the classic chewy exterior. Brush the baked dough with butter immediately to ensure the sugar sticks perfectly.
