Ingredients

  • 1.5 pounds top sirloin steak trimmed cleanly and cut into uniform one-inch cubes
  • 3 cups jasmine rice cooked and chilled completely inside the fridge beforehand
  • 2 whole English zucchini sliced into half-moons for a vibrant vegetable crunch
  • 8 ounces button mushrooms sliced thickly to add a rich earthy umami layer
  • 2 whole fresh carrots cut into matchsticks to introduce a bright colorful crunch
  • ½ cup unsalted butter divided for frying the rice, vegetables, and pan-searing the beef
  • ¼ cup soy sauce divided cleanly to glaze the grains and meat layers smoothly
  • ¼ cup Yum Yum Sauce drizzled generously over the final assembled bowl

Equipment

  • 1 Iron Skillet or Wok Heavy bottomed to distribute pan heat evenly for high-speed searing
  • 1 Wooden Spatula To easily toss and slide the grains and vegetables rapidly inside the pan
  • 1 Garlic Press To efficiently mince fresh garlic cloves into a smooth aromatic paste

Method

  1. Stir-fry your cold jasmine rice inside a hot skillet with melted butter, sesame oil, soy sauce, and a beaten egg for four minutes until golden and fragrant.
  2. Remove the fried rice to a side dish and melt another tablespoon of butter inside the hot pan to prepare for the vegetables.
  3. Sauté the carrot matchsticks, zucchini half-moons, and sliced mushrooms with minced garlic and soy sauce for four minutes until crisp-tender.
  4. Transfer the vegetables into a side bowl, pat your sirloin steak cubes completely dry with paper towels, and season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  5. Melt the remaining butter in the empty pan over a high flame until foaming, searing the steak bites undisturbed for two minutes to build a deep crust.
  6. Toss the meat quickly, add two minced garlic cloves, and cook for one final minute before pulling the skillet from the stovetop.
  7. Ladle fried rice, sautéed vegetables, and juicy steak bites side-by-side into a deep bowl, drizzling cream yum yum sauce across the center before serving.

Notes

Cook each component of the bowl in separate, rapid batches over high heat to ensure the vegetables stay crisp-tender and the meat develops a beautiful caramelized crust without steaming. Use day-old chilled jasmine rice to achieve the perfect non-mushy fried rice structure.
