Ingredients
  

For the Pie
  • 1 lb Ground beef 80/20 or lean
  • 1 medium Yellow onion Diced
  • 2 cups Cheddar cheese Shredded, sharp
  • ¾ cup Bisquick mix
  • 1.5 cups Milk Whole or 2%
  • 3 large Eggs
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • ½ teaspoon Black pepper Freshly ground
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Butter or cooking spray For greasing pan
For Serving (Optional)
  • Dill pickle slices
  • Diced tomatoes Fresh
  • Ketchup
  • Yellow mustard

Equipment

  • 1 Large skillet For browning beef
  • 1 9 inch pie pan Deep dish preferred
  • 1 Wooden spoon For breaking up beef
  • 1 Mixing bowl For Bisquick batter
  • 1 Whisk For smooth batter
  • 1 Cheese grater If using block cheese
  • 1 Sharp knife For slicing pie

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F, grease 9 inch pie pan generously with butter or cooking spray
  2. Heat skillet over medium high, add ground beef breaking it up, add diced onion, cook 8 minutes until browned, drain fat thoroughly
  3. Add salt, pepper, garlic powder and Worcestershire sauce to beef, stir well
  4. Spread seasoned beef mixture evenly in bottom of prepared pie pan, press down gently
  5. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over beef covering completely, reserve small amount for topping if desired
  6. Whisk together Bisquick mix, milk and eggs in bowl until smooth with no lumps
  7. Pour batter evenly over beef and cheese layer, spread to edges with spoon
  8. Bake 30 to 35 minutes until top golden brown and knife inserted in center comes out clean
  9. If using, sprinkle reserved cheese on top during last 5 minutes of baking
  10. Let pie rest 5 minutes, cut into wedges, serve hot with burger toppings
