Cheesy Taco Sticks

Ingredients
  

  • 2 tubes Refrigerated crescent roll dough 8 oz each tube
  • 1 lb Ground beef 80/20 blend preferred
  • 1 packet Taco seasoning 1 oz packet
  • 1 cup Shredded cheddar cheese Sharp cheddar works best
  • 0.5 cup Shredded Mexican cheese blend For extra melty goodness
  • 1 small Onion Diced fine
  • 2 cloves Garlic Minced
  • 2 tablespoon Water For taco seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil For browning beef
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt To taste
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper Freshly ground
  • 1 large Egg For brushing tops
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame seeds Optional garnish

Equipment

  • 1 Large baking sheet For even browning
  • 1 Parchment paper Prevents sticking
  • 1 Large skillet For cooking beef mixture
  • 1 Wooden spoon For breaking up meat
  • 1 Small bowl For egg wash
  • 1 Pastry brush For golden tops
  • 1 Sharp knife For dicing onions
  • 1 Cutting board For safe prep work

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F, line baking sheet with parchment paper
  2. Heat olive oil in large skillet over medium-high heat
  3. Add diced onions, cook 2-3 minutes until softened
  4. Add ground beef, cook 5-6 minutes until no pink remains
  5. Drain excess grease from beef mixture
  6. Add garlic, taco seasoning, and water, simmer 2-3 minutes
  7. Remove from heat, let beef mixture cool 5 minutes
  8. Separate crescent roll dough into triangles
  9. Place 2 tablespoon beef mixture and cheese on wide end of each triangle
  10. Roll up tightly from wide end, pinch seams to seal
  11. Place seam-side down on prepared baking sheet
  12. Beat egg, brush over tops, sprinkle with sesame seeds
  13. Bake 12-15 minutes until golden brown and puffed
  14. Let cool 3-4 minutes before serving
