Got a question? Pull up a chair! Below you'll find answers to the most common questions we get at the kitchen table. If you don't see your answer here, you can always leave a comment on a specific recipe or Contact us
How do you test your recipes?
The "Aunty & Niece" Approval Process. We take testing very seriously because we know how frustrating it is to waste ingredients on a dish that fails.
- The Kitchen Test: Aunt Emma develops the recipe using standard grocery store ingredients (nothing fancy or hard to find!). She tests it multiple times using different methods (e.g., standard oven vs. convection, or Instant Pot).
- The "Anna" Test: Once Emma thinks it's perfect, Anna (the niece!) tries the food. If she says "It's okay," we go back to the drawing board. It only goes on the blog if she says, "Can I take the leftovers home?"
- The Beginner Run: Sometimes, Emma watches Anna make the recipe from scratch to see if the instructions are clear enough for a beginner to follow without help.
Do you have recipes for beginners?
Absolutely. That is the whole heart of Aunty Meals. While Aunt Emma has years of experience, Anna is still learning! We write every single recipe with the beginner in mind. You will find:
- Step-by-step photos so you can see what the texture should look like.
- "Aunty's Tips" in the notes section to prevent common mistakes.
- Simple equipment lists (we love Air Fryers and Slow Cookers because they make life easier!). If you are nervous about a recipe, email us! We'd love to guide you through it.
Help! I made a recipe and it didn't work.
Don't panic! Let's troubleshoot. Cooking is science, and sometimes variables change. If a recipe didn't turn out right, please leave a comment on the post or email us. To help us solve the mystery, tell us:
- Did you make substitutions? (e.g., Using almond flour instead of all-purpose flour changes everything!)
- How did you measure? (Scooping flour with a cup vs. weighing it can lead to dry cakes).
- What brands did you use? We are here to help you learn, not to judge! We want you to succeed.
Is the nutrition information accurate?
It is an estimate, not a medical diagnosis. We know many of our readers follow Keto, Gluten-Free, or Low-Calorie diets. We use a third-party digital calculator to provide nutritional estimates (calories, carbs, protein, etc.) for your convenience. However, please note:
- Brands vary significantly (e.g., one brand of coconut milk may have more fat than another).
- We are home cooks, not certified nutritionists or doctors.
- Please use your own preferred calculator if you need precise numbers for medical reasons.
Can I use your photos or recipes on my blog?
We love that you want to share, but please follow these rules:
You CAN:
- You may use one (1) photo to feature our recipe in a "Roundup" (e.g., "10 Best Winter Soups") on your website, PROVIDED THAT you include a clear link back to the original recipe post on AuntyMeals.com.
You CANNOT:
- Do not Copy-Paste the full recipe. Please do not republish the ingredients and instructions on your site or social media. This hurts our website's ability to stay online.
- Do not use our photos for commercial products.
- Do not use our photos without credit.
